Drugs, Alcohol

Heather Locklear was rushed to the hospital around 2 p.m. local time today, after authorities responded to a call from her sister in Los Angeles, who feared the actress was in danger.
Law enforcement officials tell TMZ they believe Locklear took a mixture of prescription drugs and alcohol, as paramedics on the scene decided she needed medical attention.

"Emergency response personnel responded to a medical emergency call at Ms. Locklear's residence," confirmed Ventura County Sheriff's Capt. Mike Aranda to People. "Once they arrived, it was determined that Ms. Locklear needed to be transported to the hospital for further medical attention."
Locklear, who called off her engagement to Jack Wagner late last year, was just spotted Tuesday night with a friend at the Lakers game.
Kris Humphries is reportedly steaming mad because Kim Kardashian and company staged a conversation on last week's Kourtney & Kim Take New York that painted him in a negative light.
The incident in question supposedly took place in a car ride from Dubai, as Kris Jenner asked her daughter if she was excited to return home to her "hubby" and Kim replied:
“There’s something in my relationship that I feel isn’t right. I’m learning a lot of things about him that I didn’t really know before... And married life isn’t what I thought it would be with him: I keep thinking something is off.”
But did this exchange actually take place in real time? Or was it contrived at a later date? Watch the clip below (at the 4:30 mark) and you won't notice any lights in the background, any cars passing by, anything at all except for a black backdrop. Hmmm...

Awww: Britney Spears Posts Adorable Kid Photos!

Thank you to Britney Spears, and to her children, for putting smiles on her faces.
Newly engaged and settling back into things at home in California with sons Sean Preston, 6, and Jayden James, 5, after her world tour, the 30-year-old star is loving life.
“Jayden is having some hair-raising fun on the trampoline!” she wrote Tuesday, sharing a photo of her boys playing together outside on her Facebook page. AWW!

On Twitter, Spears also showed off her “little Hercules,” posting a photo (below) of Sean P. flexing his muscles at his gymnastics class. Kid's breaking out the big guns!
For all the tumult they went through early on, the boys are happy nowadays, as are their parents. Father Kevin Federline recently praised Britney's fiancĂ© Jason Trawick, saying, “I think he’s a great guy. The kids speak highly of him. Her family loves him.”
And they all lived happily ever after ... hopefully. Fingers crossed!

Ted Williams: Where Is He Now?

Remember Ted Williams? The Man with the Golden Voice? The guy who sky-rocketed to fame because he has a deep voice and because America is obsessed with rewarding those who don't actually accomplish anything?
And who then ended up in rehab a few weeks later?
Entertainment Tonight tracked Williams down this week and aired a feature that updated viewers on the former homeless man's status. Apparently he's now clean and living in a condo with his girlfriend! Good for him! Watch for more:

Natalee Holloway Legally Dead, Judge Declares

Natalee Holloway was declared legally dead Thursday by a judge in her home state of Alabama. She mysteriously vanished in Aruba more than six years ago.
Probate judge Alan King made the ruling at the request of Holloway's father.
While her body was never found, Dave Holloway met a legal presumption of death for his daughter, according to King, who had set Thursday as the deadline for anyone to come forward and prove she didn't die on the Caribbean island.
Natalee Holloway
With no evidence to the contrary, Natalee Holloway is legally deceased.
The ruling comes just one day after longtime suspect Joran van der Sloot pleaded guilty to the murder of another woman, Stephany Flores, in Peru.
Van der Sloot's lawyer said the 24-year-old killed Flores in 2010 due to "extreme psychological trauma" he experienced in the Holloway investigation.

Guy Says Things People Never, Ever Say

People rarely shut up nowadays, but there are some things they just never say.
Ever hear anyone claim Breaking Dawn deserves an Academy Award? Or that they're really missing Rosie O'Donnell these days? Or they wish they could watch more WNBA games on TV? Or set their default font on MS Word to Papyrus?
Exactly. To that end, here is a collection of phrases you will often never hear:

Robert Kardashian Declares: Khloe is My Daughter!

Robert Kardashian passed away in 2003. So how did the former O.J. Simpson attorney actually come to his daughter's rescue this week, amidst a growing, tabloid-based scandal?
First, a refresher on said scandal: in the latest issue of Star, two of Robert's former wives came out and claimed he admitted to them that Khloe Kardashian was NOT his spawn. They quoted their late ex as saying he knew all along that Khloe was the product of an affair Kris Jenner carried on, but he loved her anyway.
Khloe Kardashian Cheers on Mavs
Khloe has since come out and slammed the women, while family sources have written off their claims as ridiculous.
Now, TMZ has uncovered a document that might actually prove Khloe truly is Robert's offspring

Weird Celebrity Baby Names: Vote For Your Favorite!

All babies are beautiful. All celebrity baby names, however? Let's just say some are better than others. Below, we rank our favorite weird ones of recent years.
NOTE: We are defining weird as in unusual, not in a negative sense. If you don't know anyone else with said name, it qualifies as unusual, even if you love it.
The birth of Beyonce's baby Blue got us thinking: Where does that little one rank? Without further ado, give it up for the (possibly stoned) parents of ...

10. Pilot Inspektor. Overcompensating for your own boring name, Jason Lee?
9. Kal-El. The son of Nic Cage. Yes, Kal dash El.
8. Track and Trig. Todd and Sarah Palin's daughters, Piper, Willow and Bristol Palin, have downright normal names compared to their brothers.
7. Blue Ivy Carter. This one's kinda cool, but still out there.
6. Sparrow. We liked this name for Nicole Richie and Joel Madden's second child more when we thought Sparrow was a girl. He is not a girl.

5. Jermajesty. Jermaine Jackson's son. Yes, Jer-effing-majesty. MJ is exempt, barely, since Blanket is merely a nickname ... for Prince Michael II.
4. Spec and Hud. The latter of John Cougar Mellencamp and Elaine Irwin's sons may be sponsored by the Dept of Housing and Urban Development.
3. Bronx Mowgli. Borough of New York City + Jungle Book character = perfect baby name ... at least if you're Ashlee Simpson and Pete Wentz.

Okay, sorry. We're back.
But Lionsgate has released its first official promotional photo of Elizabeth Banks in the key Hunger Games role of Effie Trinket and it's safe to say we're a tad bit excited over it.

"A fun part of being an actor and a chameleon is taking on those looks," Banks told The Huffington Post of the transformation into this Capitol spokesperson. "Effie has a really theatrical, over-the-top, completely not me look to her. I'm very excited for people to see my portrayal. I have no idea if people are going to be into it. I hope they are."

Brandi Favre Sued For Destroying Neighbor's Home With Meth Fumes

Brett Favre destroyed the Minnesota Vikings' title aspirations two years ago after an ill-advised pick. Now people have a bone to pick with his sister, Brandi Favre, after destroying their house by running an ill-advised METH LAB NEXT DOOR.
Brandi was arrested in a massive meth bust in Mississippi last year, and the couple living next door to the alleged meth lab run by the female Favre claims the fumes from the manufacturing process have wreaked havoc on their home.
Brandi Favre Mug Shot
The couple claims a meth screening company detected "widespread meth contamination" in their home right after Brandi Favre's January 2011 arrest.
In any case, the neighbors say they spent five months living elsewhere as their home was returned livable condition - inconvenient and expensive.
The couple is now suing Brandi and her alleged accomplices for unspecified damages. Favre's case is still pending before a grand jury in Mississippi.
Experts recommended the entire place be cleaned after living next to Brandi, which makes you wonder about the health of people who actually put meth in their bodies.
As for Brett's efforts to put himself inside Jenn Sterger, that went about as successfully as Brandi's meth operation ... only 20 times funnier

NIGERIA ISSUES

One of Nigeria's main trade unions has said that strikes in protest over the scrapping of popular fuel subsidies will continue despite ongoing talks with the government.
Abdulwaheed Omar, the president of Nigeria Labour Congress, said after meeting President Goodluck Jonathan on Thursday that both sides had agreed to shift ground and would meet again on Saturday.
"We had fruitful discussions, both sides have agreed to shift ground," said Omar. "Unless and until we get a conclusive conclusion from the discussion then that means we will maintain status quo. For now the strike still continues."
Nigeria scrapped subsidies on petrol imports on January 1, more than doubling the pump price to around $0.93 per litre, sparking paralysing protests across the country.
Before the Thursday meeting between labour union representatives and the president, Nigeria's main oil union said it would shut down the country's oil and gas production starting on Sunday in support of the national strike.
"We are herby notifying the Federal Government of Nigeria ... that PENGASSAN (The Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria) shall be forced to go ahead and apply the bitter option of ordering the systematic shutting down of oil and gas production with effect from ... 00:00 hours on Sunday, January 15," the union said in a statement.
Union president Babatunde Ogun said if fields are shut down, it could take six months to a year to restart them.
"We ... believe that if everything comes to a standstill, the government will budge," Ogun told reporters in Lagos.
He also said a natural gas shutdown would turn off the nation's power grid, which is already prone to frequent blackouts and shortages in many areas.
Petrol dollars
Since demonstrations against the subidy cuts started, hundreds of thousands of people have staged protests in cities across the Africa's largest crude oil producing country, and at least three people have been reported killedin the demonstrations.
Many of the protesters see the government's withdrawal of financial support as another blow to the public's needs by not tackling the rampant corruption that has severely damaged the country's economy.
Petrol dollars dominate Nigeria's economy and represent the majority of its government revenues, with about two million barrels exported per day.
Members of Nigeria's senate and house of representatives have sought to broker a way out of the crisis, but no progress has been reported so far.
Government officials and economists say removing subsidies was essential and will allow the $8bn per year in savings to be directed into projects to improve the country's woefully inadequate infrastructure.
Demonstrators, on the other hand, say that the subsidies were the only benefit that citizens received from the country's massive oil wealth, and cutting them would raise the price of oil as well as other goods even further.
Increased attacks by Boko Haram in the country's north is adding pressure on a government already facing popular dissent following the removal of the fuel subsidies.
Analysts warn that could raise political risks in a nation with a young democracy and a history of military rulers.

Osasuna 1-2 Barcelona (1-6 Agg): Alexis Sanchez and Sergi Roberto secure progression and set up Real Madrid tie in quarterfinals of Copa del Rey

Pep Guardiola's men started slowly and had to come from behind with two second-half goals to secure a comfortable aggregate victory over the Navarrans

Barcelona went through the motions of its second-leg tie to secure a comfortable 6-1 aggregate victory over Osasuna at the Reyno de Navarra in the fifth round of the Copa del Rey.

After a lackluster start from the European champions, they came from behind to take a 2-1 win and secure a quarterfinal tie with reigning champions Real Madrid.

The hosts took a first-half lead lead against a disinterested Blaugrana through Dejan Lekic but Guardiola’s men responded with a vastly improved second-half display. Alexis Sanchez leveled the score moments after the restart before Sergio Roberto secured the win with a 72nd minute strike.

Barcelona began the game at a slow, workmanlike tempo as it sought a no-fuss 90 minutes. Osasuna gradually eked its way into the game after Pedro’s 6th minute shot was tipped over by Asier Riesgo.

Eric Abidal replaced the injured Andreu Fontas in the Blaugrana defense and almost gifted the opposition a goal in the 17th minute. Alvaro Cejudo dispossessed the Frenchman and his cross was met by Lekic. The striker’s effort got the beating of Jose Pinto but was cleared off the line by the covering Gerard Pique. Patxi Punal then failed to capitalize on the rebound.

Barcelona lacked urgency and rarely threatened the opposition. With eight minutes of the first half left, Lekic caught Javier Calleja’s pinpoint cross on the volley with sublime technique, but his effort shaded the outside of the post.

Moments after Riesgo produced a fantastic reactionary save to deny Pique, Osasuna came up with the perfect response. Raoul Loe outmuscled Sergio Roberto 25 yards from goal and the Lekic took full advantage of picking up the loose ball, lashing a left-footed strike from the edge of the box past Pinto.

Calleja and Cejudo both missed chances to enhance upon Osasuna’s lead before the break and they were punished with just four minutes of the second half played. Adriano dropped a shoulder, beating Marc Bertran and creating space for a low, drilled cross. It zipped off the surface, beating the sprawling Riesgo on its way to Sanchez at the back post who nodded in to level the scores.

After that goal the life and urgency was sucked out of the game. Sergio Roberto’s poor first touch spurned a potential one-on-one opportunity and Lolo failed to test Pinto with a free kick in the 64th minute.

Roberto did not make the same mistake at the second time of asking in the 72nd minute. Lionel Messi spotted the 19-year-old’s darting run in the area and poked an inch-perfect pass through to the youngster. His first touch narrowed the angle but he sent the ball across goal, beating Riesgo and finding the far corner.

Osasuna will now turn its attention to building on its impressive start to its La Liga campaign at home to Racing Santander this weekend. Barcelona’s victory sets up a tantalizing quarterfinal tie with arch rival and reigning champion Real Madrid. The first leg will take place on Jan. 17 at the Santiago Bernebeu.

Malaga 0-1 Real Madrid (2-4 Agg): Horrible error from Caballero allows Benzema to secure last-eight spot for Jose Mourinho's men

A dreadful second-half mistake from the home side's goalkeeper cost Manuel Pellegrini's men the tie, and allowed the holders to progress to the last eight

A solitary effort from Karim Benzema, after a horrible mistake from Willy Caballero, was enough to earn Real Madrid a 1-0 victory over Malaga at La Rosaleda in the second-leg of the Copa del Rey round of 16 matchup on Tuesday evening. Madrid wins the two-legged tie by a 4-2 aggregate score.
The match began at an intense level as both teams used high lines to furiously pressure each other. Attempting to work around its opposition's high tempo style of play, the away side began to play a possession game and slowly took control of the flow of play.

Los Boquerones soon recovered, led by the bombarding wing-play of Nacho Monreal and Sergio Sanchez. Both struck cross after cross into the Madrid 18-yard box, looking to test Los Merengues' aerial game.

Continuing to run at Jose Mourinho’s men with fluid wing-play, Eliseu Pereira had the home fans on their feet when he beat Fabio Coentrao on the dribble, cut inside and unleashed a rocket from 25-yards which just went wide of the post.

Minutes later, Eliseu blew by Alvaro Arbeloa on the left and found Seba Fernandez in the 18-yard box with a perfect cross.  The unmarked forward could only head over the bar, missing a glaring opportunity to put his side ahead.

Against the flow of play, Madrid earned a great chance to open scoring when a Cristiano Ronaldo back-heel isolated Sami Khedira on the left. The Germany international sent a looping effort towards goal which was batted away by Caballero. Khedira not only missed an opportunity to earn an advantage for his side, but also injured himself on the play, forcing a substitution that introduced Mesut Ozil into the game.

The first half ended with the two sides exchanging opportunities. Sergio Ramos directed a free kick just wide of Caballero's post while Eliseu responded with another screamer which Iker Casillas excellently palmed away.
After a dull beginning to the second half, a Lassana Diarra cross from the left found an open Ronaldo who had his near-perfect header from a few yards out majestically saved by Caballero.

Minutes later, Los Blancos looked to have opened scoring through Gonzalo Higuain but the Argentina international was correctly flagged for offside as he was placing the ball into Caballero's net.

After a string of excellent saves, a fatal error by Caballero cost his side the game. On a lightning-quick counterattack, Ozil picked out Benzema on the left. The Frenchman attempted to curl the ball around Caballero but sent it directly at his figure. However, the veteran goalkeeper allowed the ball to pass through his legs and slowly roll into the back of the net, clinching his side's elimination.

The goal effectively ended the match as the demoralized Andalusian side had no answer for Benzema's effort.

With the win, Madrid progresses to the quarterfinals of the competition and will be waiting for Barcelona to progress in order to set up another epic tie between the rivals. Malaga exits the competition and will now focus its attention on securing a spot in next season's Champions League with a strong second half in La Liga.
