Wayne Rooney has apologised after he broke a young fan's wrist with a wayward shot.
Nine-year-old United fan Jamie Thomas was in the stands at Molineux last Sunday when he tried to block Rooney’s splitting strike during the warm-up before United’s 5-0 Barclays Premier League win.
He was sat in the front row of the Jack Harris Stand with his Dad but missed most of the match as he was attended to by first aiders before being taken to hospital.
After being made aware of the incident, Rooney then tweeted: 'If i broke this kids wrist in warm up i apologise. If the kids parents get in touch with club i will gladly sign a shirt for him.

'I want to apologise to Jamie Thomas, I have arranged for a letter and a signed shirt to be sent to his home address #getwellsoon.'
Shropshire lad Jamie now has his hand in plaster for the next month.
‘The players were warming up and Rooney and Hernandez were taking a few shots. Rooney missed one and it was coming straight towards Jamie so he put out his hands to stop it hitting him and it broke his wrist,’ Jamie’s father Andy told the Shropshire Star.

‘At first we thought it was just bruising but Jamie wasn’t enjoying the game so we went to first aid. We ended up missing most of the second half.
‘It was his first Man Utd game and we were in the Wolves end because somebody got us tickets.
‘They wanted us to go to Wolverhampton hospital but we were catching the train so we went to Shrewsbury instead.
‘They said it was a clean break and he has to go back in a couple of weeks.’

The saga has not put the youngster off from going to more games, however, and his Dad believes Rooney would have apologised immediately had he have known about it.
‘It shook him up a bit but he’s fine about it now and I don’t think it’s put him off going to other games,’ he added.
‘I don’t think Rooney realised what he had done otherwise I am sure he would have come over.’
A spokesman confirmed to the Shropshire Star that Rooney will now offer a written apology to the boy along with a signed shirt after learning of his injury.
'Wayne did not have any idea this had happened,' the spokesperson said.
'He has now signed a shirt for Jamie and will be writing to him to apologise.'
The youngster has also been invited to watch the Wolves squad train too, according to a Molineux spokesperson.

It might be a bit blue, there's not a lot of red... but it will look fine with a splash of gold

It is unbecoming of us at the liniment and metatarsal end of the newspaper to turn into fashion experts overnight. But for what it's worth, it looked as if the British Olympic kit, which was revealed at the Tower of London, had too much blue, barely enough white and too little red.
It was worryingly approximate to a typical French or American ensemble or, as some suggested, too singularly Scottish. Are we pandering to Alex Salmond's creeping ambition?
But enough of the carping, for now. Jessica Ennis, as equanimous a character as can ever have pulled on any national colours, was smiling in excitement. She was wearing the presentation tracksuit - that's to say the one she hopes to wear on the podium - but was ready to hand it back.

Not because she was unhappy with the Stella McCartney-adidas confection but so as not to invite ill-luck in her bid for selection, something that's close to a guarantee. Up in a loft in her hometown of Sheffield is her first British kit. She was around 15 at the time she first wore it and she can remember from then on dreaming of the ultimate ambition: the Olympics, let alone a home Games.
'I hoard everything,' said the heptathlete, a poster girl for London 2012. 'It was multicoloured down the sides. But as the years have gone by it has got better and better. 'I am not superstitious but I would prefer not to take it away with me for now.'
For Ennis, and those of us watching the coming of the Games, yesterday's unveiling represented a landmark.

If last month's cycling test event was the most tangible evidence the extravaganza is on the way, and the arrival of the Olympic torch on these shores on May 18 is another staging post, this was still a compelling bit of theatre. Under lights and accompanied by music, 32 athletes from various sports took to the stage.
Even Tiffany Porter, the American-born, American-domiciled captain of the British athletics team was at the Tower and kitted out in the blue and white (and a splash of red) of her adopted homeland. Don't mention Traitors' Gate.
The Paralympians, led by swimmer Ellie Simmonds, took centre stage with our ablebodied athletes. Clapping rang around the cramped auditorium as McCartney took to the stage in her Paisley pyjamas.

But back to the carping. Bradley Wiggins, thrice Olympic cycling gold medallist, tweeted: 'Oh dear, the Olympic kit.'
Andy Turner, Commonwealth 110 metres hurdles champion, said: 'What do you think of the new Olympic kit? I'm undecided. Looks OK.'
Turner surveyed the masses on Twitter and came back with the verdict. 'Pretty much all who replied aren't a fan of the kit. They say it looks like a Scottish flag and needs more red.' Over the Severn Bridge, the reservations were amplified. Jonathan Edwards MP, of Plaid Cymru, the Welsh nationalist party, said: 'Red is a great colour and I'm surprised not to see more of it on the Olympic kit.
'Red is, of course, the colour of Welsh sport and, as demonstrated by our fantastic Grand Slam-winning team last weekend, also the colour of victory. Having said that, it is more about performance than appearance and the athletes' success will be down to dedication and tireless training and not what they're wearing.'

McCartney was unrepentant after two years' involvement. Her design, she claimed, was true to the Home Nations. 'The first place to start is to look at the Union Flag,' she said. 'It's one of the most beautiful flags in the world. It was important to present it in a contemporary way.'
In all there will be 175,000 items of clothing provided to 900 British Olympic and Paralympic athletes. There are 590 different components - competition, training, podium kits plus footwear (38 varieties, 31 of them lighter than those used at Beijing 2008) and accessories. They will go on public sale in April.
'Faster, higher, cooler' are the official watchwords: courtesy of kit that supposedly mirrors the movement of muscles and fabric that manages heat and ventilates the body. But as Ennis pointed out, she will be wearing only a few square inches of material.
All so different from 1948, when London last staged the Games. Ahead of the opening ceremony, the team were given two pairs of Y-fronts and an outfit from Simpson's of Piccadilly. Mr Chancellor, who says we live in an age of austerity?

Man United defender Ferdinand puts the boot into City support

Rio Ferdinand has ramped up the rivalry in Manchester by claiming City fans have 'come out of the woodwork'.
Roberto Mancini's side moved a point behind Barclays Premier League title rivals Manchester United with a 2-1 win over Chelsea at the Etihad Stadium on Wednesday, and provoked a barb from the United defender.
Closing the gap: City are just one point adrift of their rivals after Nasri's late winner against Chelsea

Ferdinand told BBC Sport: 'Walking around in town, you see more and more blue shirts than you probably ever would have seen over the last 10 years.

'But success sometimes brings people out of the woodwork. So fingers crossed we can delay that and make sure that we get this title sewn up this season.'
However, Mancini believes his team will be top of the table again by Saturday night after overcoming a three-month mental block to beat Chelsea and reignite their title push.
City will leapfrog United if they beat Stoke tomorrow evening, as Sir Alex Ferguson's leaders don't play until Monday, at home to Fulham.

And Mancini is sure City will put their foot to the floor after finally getting rid of a confidence problem he believes set in when they lost their first league game of the season at Chelsea in mid-December.
Since then, City have lost league games to Sunderland, Everton and Swansea and crashed out of three cup competitions.
Asked if Wednesday's victory had sent a message to United, Mancini said: 'I think that it's important to have a message for ourselves because in the last month we didn't play very well.

'In some moments of the season there are games that can change everything, like this one. In December when we lost our first game, in London, it changed something inside us. I think this game can change things again. It can make us positive again inside the mind.'
City will be without central defenders Joleon Lescott and Vincent Kompany again for the trip to Stoke but will be encouraged by the return of Carlos Tevez and the form of Samir Nasri after the two players combined to set up the Frenchman's winning goal on Wednesday.

Mancini claimed last night that Nasri has the potential to be as good as Barcelona duo Xavi and Andres Iniesta.
Nasri merely believes City are ready to put the pressure back on United.
He said: 'To beat Chelsea is a signal to United that we are here and we will be here until the end.'
At Old Trafford, United remain confident their experience and slightly easier run-in can get them to the line first.
Former captain and club ambassador Bryan Robson said last night City may feel the pressure of trying to win the title for the first time.
Robson, speaking ahead of the Soccerex European Forum in Manchester next week, said: 'The thing in United's favour is that they have been there, seen it, done it, year in, year out for the last 20 years. The manager is so experienced. He knows how to handle it.
'Certain City players will have it in the back of their mind that they are never going to do it. Some will be really positive. Others won't have the same character.'

EXCLUSIVE: Luiz raid! Barcelona to bid £35m for Chelsea defender

Chelsea will have to fight to keep David Luiz this summer, with Barcelona preparing to offer £35million for the Brazil defender.
The Catalan club have long been admirers of the 24-year-old centre half, dating back to when he was impressing at Benfica. In 2010 he was player of the year in the Portuguese League.

Barcelona see Luiz as a long-term replacement for Carles Puyol, 34 next month and increasingly injury-prone.
Coach Pep Guardiola has regularly been forced to turn to Javier Mascherano as a makeshift centre half, and he impressed there during their successful Champions League campaign last season.

Luiz, who joined Chelsea in January last year for £21m, is seen by Barcelona as a player whose style would suit them perfectly, especially alongside Gerard Pique, and they will make every attempt to lure him away this summer.
Chelsea are sure to resist Barcelona's advances. The frizzy-haired defender is a favourite with the Stamford Bridge crowd and has hit back at criticism over his defending this season with an impressive run of form.

Former Manchester United defender Gary Neville famously described him as playing as if he was 'controlled by a 10-year-old in the crowd on a PlayStation'.
But Luiz's performance in the Champions League victory over Napoli last week was considered to be his best in a Chelsea shirt.

Owner Roman Abramovich may also refuse to sell, given that skipper John Terry is 31 and troubled more and more by injury.
Terry missed Wednesday's defeat at Manchester City with a calf injury but looks set to return at home to Tottenham on Saturday.
