New face for man disfigured by gun
THIS is the amazing transformation of a man who was given a new face 15 years after blasting off his old one with a gun.
Richard Lee Norris, 37, lived as a virtual recluse since the accident — hiding his face with a mask and shopping after dark.
Doctors have ended his torment by giving him a new face, nose, teeth and jaw in a 36-hour operation.
Richard, from Hillsville, Virginia, US, had the procedure last week and is already beginning to feel his face, shave and brush his teeth.
He has also regained his sense of smell.
Lead surgeon Dr Eduardo Rodriguez, of the University of Maryland Medical Center in Baltimore, said: "It's a surreal experience to look at him. It's hard not to stare.
"Before, people used to stare at Richard because he wore a mask and they wanted to see the deformity. Now, they have another reason to stare at him, and it's really amazing.
"This accidental injury just destroyed everything. The rest of his friends and colleagues went on to start getting married, having children, owning homes. He wants to make up for all of that.
