French farce: Nasri says sorry for blast at journalist - but not to the journalist
Samir Nasri has said sorry to France supporters for the expletive-laced rant he fired at a journalist.
The Manchester City star had a heated argument with the reporter following Les Bleus’ Euro 2012 quarter-final exit to Spain.
Nasri took offence after being asked for a reaction to the defeat, with reports suggesting the dispute led to the midfielder challenging the journalist to take their argument further.
France coach Laurent Blanc and the national football federation criticized Nasri’s behaviour, and he now faces possible disciplinary action.
Nasri tweeted: “The supporters and in particular children should know that I regret that my language may have shocked them.
“I love the France team, football, and I have a profound respect for the spectators.”
But he did not apologise to the reporter, adding: “I will explain further when the time comes.”
The French Football Federation is due to meet next week to discuss Nasri’s case, and will reportedly also address the behaviour of wingers Hatem Ben Arfa and Jeremy Menez.
Nasri’s relationship with the French media was tense throughout the tournament.
After scoring the equalizer in the 1-1 draw with England, Nasri ran to the touchline and shouted, “Shut your mouth” in French.
Boss Blanc admitted: “There is a problem between Nasri and the press.”
