The Top 10 Most Popular Hip Hop Singles The Week Of 6/25/2012
Some weeks we get a list that's comprised mostly of the biggest names in the game. Other weeks it's one big surprise, with tracks that are completely out of the ordinary. This week we get a combination of those two worlds, with some traditional favorites on the list, newbies we know and love, and then some surprises (especially toward the end). It's good to know that when artists' fans support them, sometimes they really support them. Can't help but support that. As we enter what is technically a holiday weekend, check out some new songs that you just might enter into your BBQing soundtrack.
Nas and Rick Ross Had the Best Week Ever
This statement is true at least on our charts. While Rick Ross is riding high off the release of Maybach Music Group's Self Made Vol. 2 and Nas is gearing for the release of Life Is Good, these two are all over the internet on new tracks. Yes, Lupe Fiasco's "Bitch Bad" did hit #1 with a bullet. However, Nas and Rick Ross' collaborative "Accident Murderers" (with Ryan Leslie) ran a semi-close second after dominating last week. Then Nas shows up again at #3 on the Chris Brown single "Mirage." He returns again at #8 with the Massive Attack remix of "The Don." As for Rick Ross, well the Bawse came in at #4 with the recent leak of DJ Khaled's "I Wish You Would" along with the Kanye West. That one jumped up the chart rather quickly. So that's four out of ten tracks that feature either Nas, Rick Ross, or both. Almost 50% of our list. Sounds like a good week for them, right?
Big Boi and T.I. Represent Atlanta Properly, Childish Gambino Surprises Everyone
The ATLiens were also in the building this week. At #7 is a gem Big Boi dug up called "Gossip," which includes UGK and Big K.R.I.T. Right above it at #6 is T.I.'s "Go Get It." The West Coast showed up too, as Game's "Burn Rmx" hit #5 and then Kendrick Lamar's "Bring the Pain Freestyle" came in at #9. Closing out the list this week is Childish Gambino with "One Up" at #10. Donald Glover is quite the perplexing figure in Hip Hop. While some acknowledge the actor/comedian's lyrical skills, other question his sincerity. Well, with his mixtape dropping on the 4th of July, Gambino is out to prove he's not a one joke wonder and "One Up" is proof. His fans must agree, as the joint reached our top singles. After his mixtape arrives, we'll see what other tracks pop up and if they do as well. Until then...

50 Cent Says Bulletproof SUV Protected Him In Car Accident & Dismisses Publicity Stunt Theories
Fif says his choice of wheels saved his life: "We would've flipped if it was a regular truck."
It's not uncommon for an artist of 50 Cent's stature to ride around in a bulletproof vehicle. But according to the Queens rapper, the car was responsible for saving him from more than bullets when he was rear-ended by a Mack Truck earlier this week.
In an interview with MTV News, 50 explained that the car's sturdiness protected him. "We spun off into the rail. We would've flipped if it was a regular truck, but the truck weighs a ton because it has additional stuff in it."
50 detailed the reason behind the accident. "We were just riding down the LIE and a Mack Truck — he said he lost control of the vehicle later to police officers because his load shifted."
"He tried to brake, his load shifted, and he lost control and he ran into the back of the truck," explained Fif. "It did more damage to the Mack Truck than it did to my truck, 'cause I got a level six; it's a bulletproof vehicle. It's the same standard as what they're moving Obama around in."
Finally 50 dismissed any idea that he staged the accident for publicity. "Trust me, I have enough money to not hit myself with a Mack Truck to try to get a few dollars," he said. "What's the thought process on this? It makes no sense to me."

Rick Ross Says Meek Mill “Wasn’t Involved” In Bottle Fight
MMG bawse, Rick Ross, has spoken out in defense of Meek Mill and told MTV Rapfix that his protege “wasn’t involved” in the Drake vs. Chris Brown bottle fight in NYC a few weeks back. Check out what he said about the bottle fight below:
“I know Meek. I know the situation he’s in, I know where he comes from. I know that’s something that he won’t get involved in.”
“I wasn’t there so I won’t make a comment other than it was unfortunate for everybody that was in there,” he said. “But I know the homey, we seen each other that night, and that wasn’t his mind-set. He wasn’t involved in that.”
Diss Or Punchline? Game Tells Kanye West To “Share That Hoe”
- L.A. rapper The Game is at it again! After releasing a “Burn” freestyle yesterday calling out St.Louis rapper Nelly, Game has remixed French Montana’s “Pop That” that mentions Kanye West and Kim Kardashian. Is it a diss or punchline? You decide. Check out the lyrics referencing Yeezy and Kim K. below:
“Cope The Yeezy’s Never Wear That Tho, You F*** With Kim K? Nigga Share That H*e.”
Game also name checks Kanye West’s ex-girlfriend, ex-stripper Amber Rose, Drake’s stripper ex, Maliah, and Tyga’s stripper girlfriend Blac Chyna. See a pattern here? Anyway, below is the lyric:
“Amber Rose ain’t got nothin’ on Maliah, Meagan Good ain’t got nothin’ on Chyna and I know Tyga, how I know Tyga?, Meagan Good ain’t got nothing on Chyna,” Game spits. “Sh*t, Japan ain’t got nothin’ on Chyna/Wish that was me, nothin’ on Chyna/Damn, there I go again, I ain’t tryna start nothin’ about speakin’ nothin’ on Chyna!”
The Game is not trying to make the moves on Blac Chyna from what we know of. In fact, he was just in the studio with Tyga last night and tweeted that they just finished a 24-hour studio binge. Check out his tweet below
Nicki Minaj Says Drake “Did Nothing Wrong” Regarding Bottle Fight
- Even though Nicki Minaj is riding the charts thanks to her hit single, “Right By My Side” with Chris Brown, she is still Young Money till she dies! In arecent interview with Tim Westwood, Nicki Minaj is clearly siding with Drake in regards to the Chris Brown vs. Drake bottle throwing fight. Check out what she told the UK journalist below:
“You know, Young Money till the death of me. I don’t approve of talented people doing things that aren’t conducive to an amazing career. So I spoke to Drake and I told him from the bottom of my heart how I felt. I’m like “Baby you are a superstar, and I need you to realize that.”
“He did nothing wrong of course. Rumors are rumors and that’s what it is, but I just told him to remember who you are. Not that he did anything wrong. Sometimes you just need to go to bed, have an early nap, I do it all the time.”
In the clip, Nicki also speaks about bringing 2Chainz on her U.S. tour with her, as well as the reason behind having Nas in her “By My Side” music video:
Nicki also spoke about her recent HOT 97 Summer Jam debacle, as well as clowns her rumored fiancee Safaree a.k.a. Scaff Beezy in the clip below:
