TRANSFER WINDOW DEADLINE

Deadline day the transfer window closes

22.58: The window officially closes in just two minutes time, but I'm sure we'll here of news of completed deals filtering through for a while after 11pm.
22.50: DONE DEAL: Stephane Mbia's move to QPR from Marseille has been confirmed on a two-year deal. Joey Barton's switch the other way on loan, meanwhile, has been confirmed.
22.48: BREAKING NEWS: Joao Moutinho's move to Spurs looks to have fallen through. That saga had been dragging on all day... the clubs agreed a £22m fee earlier but stalled on personal terms. The move was off and then on again but the securing of Clint Dempsey seems to have convinced Spurs to pull the plug.
22.44: Rumours also now coming in that Fulham could sign Palacios. You can add his name to Huddlestone, Odjidja-Ofoe and Dejagah. I very much doubt they are going to sign all four but they'll want two in before close of play.
22.38: BREAKING NEWS: Fulham are hoping to rush through a last-minute deal for Tottenham midfielder for Tom Huddlestone.
Done deal: Benteke joins Aston Villa for £7m from Genk

22.35: DONE DEAL: Nicky Maynard has joined Cardiff City from West Ham for an undisclosed fee.
22.32: DONE DEALS: Blackpool have signed three players... Nathan Eccleston on loan from Liverpool, Nathan Delfouneso on loan from Aston Villa, and Kirk Broadfoot on a permanent deal from Rangers. Crystal Palace, meanwhile have signed David Goodwillie on a season-long loan deal from Blackburn.
22.28: DONE DEAL: Brighton have signed David Lopez from Athletic Bilbao.
22.21: DONE DEAL: Yossi Benayoun has rejoined West Ham on a season-long loan deal from Chelsea.
22.19: DONE DEAL: Christian Benteke's £7m deal to Aston Villa has been confirmed. The 21-year-old striker joins from Genk and becomes Lambert's eighth signing of the window and second of the day - after Ashley Westwood arrived from Crewe earlier tonight.
22.16: With Clint Dempsey joining Mousa Dembele at Spurs, Fulham are hoping to bring in a couple of midfielders tonight to compensate for their losses. Vadis Odjidja-Ofoe, a Belgian defensive midfielder from Club Brugge, is at the training ground, as is Ashkan Dejagah, an Iranian attacking midfielder currently plying his trade at Wolfsburg in Germany.
This way to Villa: Ashley Westwood has left Crewe for an undisclosed fee
This way to Villa: Ashley Westwood has left Crewe for an undisclosed fee
22.12: Benayoun's loan move to West Ham is dependent on Essien leaving for Real Madrid tonight. Chelsea are only prepared to subsidise the Israeli's wages if they can take Essien's off their bill.
22.02: DONE DEAL: Clint Dempsey has joined Tottenham in a £6m deal. That was quick! I wonder if that affects the Moutinho deal? We'll see...
22.00: As well as those deals we're expecting to be completed in the next hour or so, there's bound to be a couple more surprises. Hold tight...

TRANSFER DEADLINE DAY: 1 HOUR TO GO

21.57: I forgot to mention Christian Benteke in those deals we are waiting to be completed. The 21-year-old Belgian striker is set to be confirmed any time now in a £7m deal from Genk.
21.55: It's all starting to get a bit a frantic now with just over an hour left. Clubs are running out of time. Which deals will be done? We're waiting on Dempsey, Moutinho, Mbia, Essien, Javi Garcia and Yossi Benayoun - who I have just heard is on his way to West Ham.
Saga: Dempsey was subject of interest from Villa, Liverpool and Spurs on deadline day
Saga: Dempsey was subject of interest from Villa, Liverpool and Spurs on deadline day
21.50: DONE DEALS: A couple of moves in the Championship to bring you... Nottingham Forest have added James Coppinger from Doncaster, while Stephen Dobbie has joined Brighton from Swansea.
21.48: Neil Ashton is reporting that Michael Owen's move to Stoke will be completed next week before the 25-man squads have to be finalised. As he's arriving on a free, there's no rush for that one to be completed tonight. Neil also tells us though, that Stoke are looking to wrap up a deal for Steven Nzonzi tonight.
21.45: Nastasic, City's third signing of the day, is a Serbian centre-back labelled as the 'next Nemanja Vidic'. The 19-year-old joins for £10m plus Stefan Savic - who had a nightmare season for City last time campaign. Nastasic joins Scott Sinclair and Maicon at the club, while Javi Garcia is currently having his medical ahead of a £16m deal.
21.42: DONE DEALS: Everton have signed teenage winger Matthew Kennedy from Kilmarnock for a nominal fee, while Goran Popov has moved to West Brom on a season-long loan deal from Dynamo Kiev.
21.41: BREAKING NEWS: Stephane Mbia has arrived at Loftus Road to complete his move and become Mark Hughes' 12th signing of the window.
Done deal: Matija Nastasic has joined Man City from Fiorentina
Done deal: Matija Nastasic has joined Man City from Fiorentina
21.39: DONE DEAL: Matija Nastasic has completed his move to Man City from Fiorentina, becoming their third signing of the day.
21.32: BREAKING NEWS: Clint Dempsey is at Spurs Lodge! We heard rumours that they might come in earlier when Liverpool's move collapsed, and now we've had confirmation that the US international has turned up at Spurs' training ground.
21.30: DONE DEAL: Ashley Westwood has signed for Aston Villa from Crewe on a four-year deal for an undisclosed fee. We're still waiting for Benteke's £7m switch from Genk to be confirmed.
21.29: We're still waiting for confirmation of Stephane Mbia's move to QPR from Marseille (not a bad swap for Joey Barton). He's had his medical and is on his way to Loftus Road.
21.21: DONE DEAL: Billy Sharp has joined Nottingham Forest from Southampton on a season-long loan deal. Sharp only joined the Saints in January, and has netted an impressive nine goals in 15 games, but Nigel Adkins feels his new signings can cover for his departure.
21.16: DONE DEAL: Hugo Lloris has signed for Tottenham for £13m from Lyon. The France captain will compete with Brad Friedel for a starting spot. All attention now switches to Joao Moutinho at Spurs Lodge, can they complete the club record deal in time before 11pm?
Closing in: Stephane Mbia (right) is set to complete a move to QPR
Closing in: Stephane Mbia (right) is set to complete a move to QPR
21.12: BREAKING NEWS: We're hearing reports that Essien could be on his way to Real Madrid... that would contradict what Di Matteo said earlier about the midfielder joining a Premier League club on loan, but it seems feasible given that the player worked for Jose Mourinho at Chelsea and that the Madrid boss has let fellow midfielder Lassana Diarra join Anzhi.
21.07: John Edwards reports that Sheffield Wednesday have bolstered their defence by signing Martin Taylor from Watford. The 32-year old former England under-21 centre-back will bring a wealth of experience with him to Hillsborough after clocking up over 100 appearances for Blackburn and almost as many for Birmingham before joining Watford. Hillsborough boss Dave Jones completed a deal for the 6ft 4in defender after sensing he would help consolidate an encouraging start to promoted Wednesday’s return to the Championship.
21.04: As well as Javi Garcia, Nzonzi and Essien, we're also waiting on news from Spurs on Joao Moutinho and Hugo Lloris. Lloris could be announced any moment now, while the Moutinho deal could drag on all night.

TRANSFER DEADLINE DAY: 2 HOURS TO GO

Medical: Javi Garcia (left) arrives at Man City ahead of his proposed deal
20.50: There are a couple of midfielders who look certain to move tonight, but no-one knows where yet. Steven Nzonzi is set to depart Blackburn, with Stoke, Fulham and Everton all credited with an interest. While Roberto Di Matteo has confirmed that Michael Essien will leave Chelsea tonight on loan to a Premier League club. The Ghanaian will not move to Arsenal though, so who knows where he will go. We wait with anticipation...
20.43: DONE DEAL: Manchester City defender Dedryck Boyata has completed a season-long loan move to FC Twente.
20.39: BREAKING NEWS: Liverpool will not come in for Clint Dempsey again after a bid for his services was rejected by Fulham earlier. The Reds' bid did not match that of Aston Villa's - which was accepted this morning. Dempsey, however, turned down the move to Villa in the hope that a switch to Anfield would materialise. It looks like Dempsey may have to kiss and make up with Fulham, unless there is a surprise late bid from left field.
20.35: Rafael van der Vaart, who earlier expressed his delight at 'returning home' to Hamburg in a £10.2m deal, has a message for Spurs fans. He has tweeted: 'Of course I am sad to leave Spurs and especially all the fans who have been nothing but great.'
20.30: Ouch... Chelsea are now 3-0 down before half-time against Atletico, with Falcao netting a hat-trick. I wonder if Di Matteo regrets not pursuing his transfer further?
20.21: DONE DEAL: Polish goalkeeper Grzegorz Sandomierski has joined Blackburn on a season-long loan deal from Genk.

20.20: DONE DEAL: Colin Young reports that Celtic striker Daryl Murphy has rejoined Ipswich Town on loan. The 29-year-old Republic of Ireland striker, formerly of Sunderland, has had two previous spells at Portman Road. Murphy rejoins Paul Jewell’s side for the season after being told he is no longer part of Neil Lennon’s plans.
20.16: Chelsea are currently 2-0 down against Atletico Madrid in the Super Cup, with former transfer target Radamel Falcao netting both goals. You can follow all the action in that one here.
20.12: Christian Benteke, who we told you earlier was flying over to Birmingham to thrash out a move to Aston Villa, is currently having his medical at the club. He is a 21-year-old Belgian striker currently contracted to Genk.
20.06: Daniel Sturridge looks like he's definitely not joining Liverpool. According to reports he turned down the move as he was only interested in a permanent deal, while Liverpool and wanted a loan move.
20.01: Justhree hours to go now until the window closes and we are awaiting more news from Tottenham on the progress of their pursuits of Hugo Lloris and Joao Moutinho. Lloris has completed his medical, but we do not know whether that has been passed or not, while the last we heard about Moutinho was that the player and the club were haggling over personal terms.

TRANSFER DEADLINE DAY: 3 HOURS TO GO

19.54: DONE DEAL: Lassana Diarra, formerly of Chelsea, Arsenal and Portsmouth, has joined Anzhi Makhachkhala from Real Madrid.
19.48: Lyon have confirmed that Brazil international Michel Bastos will not be joining Fulham. Bernard Lacombe, an advisor to the club said late on Friday: 'Bastos will by with Lyon tomorrow night, and the next season. We had a proposal from Fulham.'
19.43: Riath Al-Samarrai reports that Swansea have said there will be no more inward activity this window. Stephen Dobbie is still expected to leave, but a prominently placed source says it could be to any one of Bristol City, Boro or Burnley.
19.41: BREAKING NEWS: Hugo Lloris has completed his medical at Tottenham. We await to hear the results of that...
19.37: News from Monaco where European champions Chelsea are playing in the UEFA Super Cup and manager Roberto Di Matteo has confirmed that midfielder Michael Essien is not in the squad as he is completing a loan move to another Premier League club. Arsenal had been linked earlier this week, but Di Matteo has said that he will not be moving to the Emirates.
19.30: DONE DEAL: Another player on the way out of Eastlands is forgotten striker Roque Santa Cruz, he is off to Spain to join Malaga on a season long loan.
19.28: Manchester City defender Dedryck Boyata looks set to join Dutch club FC Twente on a six month loan deal.

19.21: Dnipro's Ghanaian midfielder Derek Boateng was wanted by Fulham. But the player has confirmed on his Twitter page that the deal is off.
19.05: Sportsmail's John Edwards reports that Fulham may not have finished their signing spree yet, following claims that Steven Nzonzi’s agent has had talks with them as well as with Stoke. The 23-year old midfielder is on his way out at Blackburn after being at loggerheads with manager Steve Kean and submitting a transfer request. Fulham were interested in Bruges anchor man Vadis Odjidja-Ofoe, as revealed by Sportsmail earlier in the day, but switched to Nzonzi after the Belgian club put their foot down and insisted their midfield mainstay was staying put.
19.02: BREAKING NEWS: Fulham reject bid from Liverpool for Clint Dempsey.
19.00: Here is what Saints boss Nigel Adkins has had to say on the club's official website about that coup: 'A lot of hard work has gone in from the Football Club with a lot of negotiations behind the scenes to get this deal done. Great credit to everyone because we have a young, exciting talent joining us who is one of the best around. The Chairman has gone and backed this deal big-time with the financial outlay, and what we have got is one of the most exciting prospects in world football coming to St Mary’s. There is a lot of ambition at the Football Club and we are all delighted that Gaston is going to come and join us.'

TRANSFER DEADLINE DAY: 4 HOURS TO GO

18.55: DONE DEAL: Bologna have announced on their website that Gaston Ramirez has moved to Southampton for a club record fee. He looked a brilliant player during the Olympics and represents a major coup for the Saints.

18.48: BREAKING NEWS: Daniel Sturridge is on the bench tonight for Chelsea for their Super Cup match against Atletico Madrid... surely he won't be joining Liverpool then?
18.42: Colin Young reports that Sunderland manager Martin O’Neill has told strikers Fraizer Campbell, Connor Wickham and Ji-Dong Won to fight for their club futures, if he decides to keep them. O’Neill has so far rejected loan offers for all three frontmen he inherited from Steve Bruce but has not ruled temporary deals with Championship clubs as he assesses his squad after the closure of the transfer window. 'There have been tentative inquiries for quite a number of my boys but nothing has developed,' O'Neill said. 'I would not want to leave myself short although we have a number of strikers now with Ji coming back. I am happy we have the people but a number of players I think could benefit from going out on loan. I have to temper that with what is here.'
18.38: BREAKING NEWS: England international Jay Bothroyd is set to join Sheffield Wednesday on loan from QPR. I'd expect to see several more departures from Loftus Road before the window closes given how bloated their squad now is following a dozen arrivals this summer.
18.34: Rafael van der Vaart - who today left Spurs in a £10.2m deal - has spoken of his delight at 'coming back home' after rejoining Hamburg four years after he left the club for Real Madrid. 'It feels a bit like I am coming back home,' he said. 'Everybody knows that I still have a strong bond with Hamburg and it is a compliment when a club wants you every year. This season was the right time.'

18.31: Nigerian defender Efe Ambrose is at Celtic is ahead of his proposed move to the club. The Hoops have today rejected a bid from Huddersfield for striker Anthony Stokes.
18.27: All is quiet from the western front, but I'm sure that won't remain the case for long. There are no doubt lots of 'I's being dotted and 'T's being crossed right now.
18.16: Here's a reminder of a few of the deals we're waiting to be completed... both Hugo Lloris and Joao Moutinho are locked in talks with Spurs after the club agreed transfer fees with Lyon and Porto respectively. Spurs are also attempting to hijack Liverpool's bid for Clint Dempsey, while the Reds are also pursuing a loan move for Daniel Sturridge. 17.14: More from Pablo Hernandez on his club record move to Swansea... 'I want to thank the club and Michael Laudrup for making me feel like a very important player. Now I want to repay that faith on the football field. Swansea is a very important football club and will only keep getting better. They were a good side last year and look even better so far this season. I watched the game against West Ham on TV last week and they played some good football. I also liked the atmosphere; the fans are good and together with Michael Laudrup’s presence it’s an exciting package.'

16.23: Colin Young is reporting that Wolves boss Stale Solbakken is trying to push through a deal for Stoke midfielder Glenn Whelan. Tony Pulis has now got more midfielders than I've had hot dinners, so that one wouldn't surprise me.
16.21: Brendan Rodgers has confirmed Liverpool's interest in taking Chelsea midfielder Yossi Benayoun back to Anfield on loan. You can understand why some deals are left late, but others - like that one - baffle me. Why not get it done earlier in the summer? Still, it makes for good fun for us!
16.19: BREAKING NEWS: Man City have agreed a £24m deal with Benfica for midfielder Javi Garcia. The Spaniard's deal will go through tonight subject to a medical.

Boss Tony Mowbray has said: 'I am not anticipating any late calls unless that is a tactic from certain clubs. I don’t think it’s a wise tactic because I would suggest we won’t be selling as he is a player we would need to replace and it is getting late in the day.'
16.13: Brendan Rodgers has just been quizzed by the press on several players who have been rumored to be joining Liverpool. He gave a flat 'no' to suggestions of Theo Walcott and Klaas-Jan Huntelaar signing, but was happy to discuss the talents of Daniel Sturridge. Hmm...

15.49: Former boyband member Anthony Costa (of Blue fame, remember?) is at Spurs Lodge, hanging around with the fans at the gates of the training complex. Cringe.
15.48: Hugo Lloris is at Spurs lodge, I repeat...
15.46: Marseille sporting director Jose Anigo has confirmed Joey Barton's arrival depended on Stephane Mbia joining QPR.
Barton has passed a medical and took part in a light training session this morning.

15.39: More news for you QPR fans: Stephane Mbia has touched down in London and is now traveling to a secret location in Surrey to complete his medical. I'm gonna go out on a limb and say he's heading to Tesco in Camberley. I could be wrong.
15.30: DONE DEAL: Richard Wright has joined Manchester City.
15.23: DONE DEAL: Dimitar Berbatov is a Fulham player. The Bulgarian joins the Cottagers on a £5million deal, four years after signing for Manchester United for £30.75m.
On the move, Berbatov said: 'I'm delighted to have signed for Fulham and I look forward to playing under Martin Jol once again.
'As soon as I was aware of Fulham’s interest my decision to join was an easy one to make. I’m impressed with the set up here and the people have made me feel welcome. There is a close and personal feel around the Club and I can’t wait to get started.'
15.16: Here's some very big (potential) news: Chelsea's hopes of signing Bayer Leverkusen forward Andre Schurrle before the transfer window closes are fading and so they are planning to turn their attention to former Tottenham target, Marseille striker Loic Remy.
15.12: Gary Neville's two pennies (via Twitter, bien sur): 'What the transfer deadline gives you is a clear indication of which are the badly run football clubs!!!'
Over to you, Tottenham.

'Bothroyd, 30, had several Championship clubs chasing him including Brighton but Wednesday manager Dave Jones is favourite to sign him before tonight's 11pm deadline with QPR paying a portion of the striker's £40,000-a-week wages.'
15.04: Big news for Manchester City fans and this could be the biggest deal of the day: Manchester City and Benfica have come to agreement over Javi Garcia - in the region of £24million.

TRANSFER DEADLINE DAY: 8 HOURS TO GO

14.56: Roque Santa Cruz (remember him?) is undergoing a medical at Malaga.
14.53: Newcastle defender Paul Dummett has travelled to Scotland for talks over a loan move with St Mirren boss Danny Lennon. The Wales Under 21 defender, who can play at left-back or centre-half, could be included in the Saints squad to face Aberdeen tomorrow.
14.52: And another one who could be coming into Craven Cottage today is Ashkan Dejegah. The Wolfsburg midfielder is in talks with the club who have been very active in the transfer market. This follows news the club have agreed a fee with Lyon for midfielder Michel Bastos.
14.51: DONE DEAL: Rafael van der Vaart has signed for Hamburg.

Valencia winger Hernandez, meanwhile, is having his medical and international clearance has been granted for Itay Shechter to join on loan from Kaiserslautern.
14.36: Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas has launched an attack on Tottenham chairman Daniel levy over the transfer of goalkeeper Hugo Lloris to north London.
Aulas said: 'The negotiation with the Tottenham directors has been the hardest I have ever had to undergo in these 25 years.
'We had email exchanges which have been contradicted, so that's made it very complicated. It's difficult. The Tottenham board's theory is to explain that the economic market is very hard and so we have to get used to renegotiating.'
Brinkmanship is the name of the game in that deal.

Genk are believed to be closing in on Mons marksman Jeremy Perbet, last season’s Belgian League top scorer and a target for Everton and Leicester earlier this year.
Should they land him, they would listen to an improved Villa bid for 21-year old Belgium striker Benteke, after turning down an initial £6million offer that was exclusively revealed in Sportsmail earlier this week. Villa are desperate for more firepower and made an unsuccessful pre-deadline approach for Fulham’s Clint Dempsey.

Few things we're waiting on: Everton to confirm Bryan Ovideo deal, Sunderland are very close to taking Danny Rose on loan and Jermaine Jenas on a permanent deal and Rafael van der Vaart is heading to Germany for a medical ahead of returning to Hamburg. Spurs will end the day with fewer players than Portsmouth at this rate.

9.23: Rafael van der Vaart is NOT in Hamburg completing a deal to rejoin former club Hamburg. he's just rocked up at the Tottenham training base down Luxborough Lane in Chigwell (across a bridge over the M11, just past the Old Loughtonians Hockey Club and before the recycling centre - to be precise).
However, that doesn't mean he will not be heading out of White Hart Lane. The deal for him to return to the Bundesliga is still very much in the offing.

8.53: Rio Ferdinand has been adding his thoughts on some of the biggest deals in the past 24 hours.
Via Twitter (of course): 'Jordan Rhodes sold for 8m,big doe for a kid who hasn't played PL yet, loads of potential tho. Great coup for WHUFC getting Carroll.'
8.46: More on the Dempsey/Sturridge conundrum for Liverpool. Reds chief Ian Ayre has already started making calls to sign Sturridge on season-long loan. Sounds like a definite goer.
8.41: 'Would really like to see Chelsea keep hold of Sturridge. Was one of our best players in the first half of last season (despite not playing in his favoured position) and this year he's likely to get more chances as a striker.
'Not too keen on Schurrle, so if we're not signing Cavani I wish we'd keep Sturridge instead as team is looking strong for this season,' says Dan Hammy.
If it's any consolation, Liverpool's No 1 target is Clint Dempsey, but the club are keeping their options open.

8.34: Southampton are set to shore up their defence with the signing of Japan international Maya Yoshida from Dutch club VVV-Venlo. The 24-year-old, capped 17 times by his country, will sign a three-year contract and has already secured a work permit.
'To come to the Premier League was one of my biggest dreams since I was a child,' said Yoshida, who captained Japan in the 2012 London Olympics.
8.30: After missing out on Manchester United's Dimitar Berbatov (to Fulham) and Arsenal's Nicklas Bendtner (close to Juventus), Fiorentina are in talks to sign Ryan Babel. Ouch!
The former Liverpool striker has secured his release on a free by Hoffenheim, but could wait till after the deadline to find a new club. Olympiakos are also interested.
8.27: Charlie Adam has just arrived at the Clayton Wood training complex and Stoke boss Tony Pulis pulled up at the ground just behind him - looks like the Scotsman's time on Merseyside is coming to an end. Fee believed to be in the region of £4m-£5m.
On the move: De Jong is heading to join AC Milan
On the move: De Jong is heading to join AC Milan
8.24: Nigel de Jong's move to AC Milan will be confirmed later today. He touched down in Italy last night and has been speaking to reporters this morning.

LOL, indeed.
8.13: Reliable Brazilian website Globoesporte claims that Tottenham have failed in a new bid to sign midfielder Willian, despite meeting Shakhtar Donetsk's £23.75million asking price.
The Ukrainian champions didn't like the structure of the deal, which would have seen the fee paid in five instalments. Shakhtar want half up front and the rest before the end of the year. Will Spurs agree?

7.57: Gael Kakuta is likely to join Vitesse Arnhem on loan for the season after being disappointed by the terms offered by Marseille. Chelsea are using their close relationship with Dutch side Vitesse to find a home for the unhappy 21-year-old midfielder.
7.53: Zenit St Petersburg hope to add today, with Manchester United winger Nani and Arsenal's Andrey Arshavin both possible arrivals, but the club's general director Maksim Mitrofanov has warned they won't overpay after reportedly failing in a near-£40m bid for Porto striker Hulk, who had also been pursued by Chelsea this summer.
7.43: News involving Arsenal today. Arsene Wenger has made merry in the transfer market this summer and it looks like he could be involved in some late action - but mainly in those leaving the club.
Malaga want to sign 19-year-old Arsenal centre-back Ignasi Miquel on loan. And Juventus are expecting to complete the signing of Nicklas Bendtner before the 11pm deadline. Granted, there have been rumours involving Michael Essien switching across London, but nothing we can confirm just yet.
