BEST GOAL EPL
0 Sergio Aguero – Norwich v MANCHESTER CITY (14/4/12)
Double trouble: Aguero (left) scored a screamer at Norwich in April
Carlos Tevez’s hat-trick would take all the headlines in Manchester City’s 6-1 win at Norwich but it was Aguero’s first goal that had the purists purring. The Argentine slammed home Tevez’s back heel pass to cap a fine flowing move for Roberto Mancini’s team.
9 Craig Gardner – Wigan v SUNDERLAND (3/1/12)
9 Craig Gardner – Wigan v SUNDERLAND (3/1/12)
Free-kick goals are always special but Gardner’s strike at Wigan earlier in the year was the pick of the bunch this season. The midfielder’s effort with the outside of his boot completely bamboozled Ali Al Habsi as it flew into the top corner.
8 Bryan Ruiz – FULHAM v Everton (23/10/11)
8 Bryan Ruiz – FULHAM v Everton (23/10/11)
It’s been a difficult first season for Ruiz at Fulham but the Costa Rican has shown moments of brilliance – mainly through his ability to chip the ball. His scooped effort against Bolton was impressive enough but his delicate lob over Everton’s Tim Howard gets the nod.
7 Gareth Bale – Manchester City v TOTTENHAM (22/1/12)
7 Gareth Bale – Manchester City v TOTTENHAM (22/1/12)
Often accused of being a one trick pony with his devastating pace down the flank, but Bale has shown he has a sweet left foot too. His first-time side-foot strike against City from 23 yards left Joe Hart with no chance.
6 Robin Van Persie - ARSENAL v Everton (10/12/11)
6 Robin Van Persie - ARSENAL v Everton (10/12/11)
You can take your pick when it comes to Van Persie volleys. His last minute winner at Liverpool was impressive enough but it’s his perfectly executed strike across goal in a 1-0 win over Everton that gets the vote.
5 Sebastian Coates – QPR v LIVERPOOL (21/3/12)
5 Sebastian Coates – QPR v LIVERPOOL (21/3/12)
Liverpool fans will want to forget this game as quickly as possible after seeing their team somehow lose despite being 2-0 up with 13 minutes left. But they will never tire of seeing Coates’ scissors kick - which would have been remarkable from a striker, let alone a defender!
4 Hatem Ben Arfa - NEWCASTLE v Bolton (9/4/12)
4 Hatem Ben Arfa - NEWCASTLE v Bolton (9/4/12)
At 60-yards to goal there looked to be no danger. But after Ben Arfa turned his marker expertly to leave him on the ground he was on to a winner. The injection of pace to take him through the defence is just as impressive before his cool finish. Masterful.
3 Peter Crouch - STOKE v Manchester City (24/3/12)
3 Peter Crouch - STOKE v Manchester City (24/3/12)
No one thought they would see Crouch turn and volley an unstoppable strike into the top corner this season, but that’s just what we saw from the England striker who could be line for an international recall for Euro 2012 judging by his new found skill.
2 Luis Suarez – Norwich v LIVERPOOL (28/4/12)
2 Luis Suarez – Norwich v LIVERPOOL (28/4/12)
Despite wasting enough opportunities in the 3-0 win trying to score goal of the month, Suarez still took everyone by surprise when he lobbed John Ruddy with perfect accuracy from 45 yards to secure his hat-trick in perfect style.
1 Papiss Cisse - Chelsea v NEWCASTLE (2/5/12)
1 Papiss Cisse - Chelsea v NEWCASTLE (2/5/12)
Cisse is worthy of having a whole top 10 list dedicated to him alone judging by the amount of wonder strikes he has rifled home for Newcastle in the second half of the season. But his second goal against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge arguably tops anything seen this term.
