Hannover 3-4 Manchester United: Hernandez scores in friendly as teammates win Olympics

Manchester United completed its preseason fixtures with an exciting 4-3 win over Hannover in Germany. Javier 'Chicharito' Hernandez, who missed joining his Mexican teammates in winning Olympic gold, scored the first for the Red DevilsA series of early Manchester misses proved costly as midway through the first half the host took the lead. A surging run by American international Steve Cherundolo was rudely interrupted by Cleverley, who left the Hannover captain on the floor and appealing to the official. But the ref ignored the home side's claims and United escaped.
Yet it was only a temporary reprieve as five minutes later Mohammed Abdellaoue was on hand to give the host a two-goal lead with a sumptuous finish. The forward latched onto a pass from Lars Stindl, and, with his back to goal, backheeled the ball past De Gea to make it 3-1.
The goal spurred United into action and minutes later Rooney had reduced the deficit. United won a free kick on the edge of the area and the England international curled a gorgeous shot over the wall and into the bottom corner of Zieler's goal with the goalkeeper a spectator.
Hannover continued to press but with just 10 minutes to go it was that man Rooney again who pulled Manchester United level. An defense-splitting pass by Nani sent the striker running clear on goal. Rooney took the ball around the goalkeeper, who pulled him down, leaving the referee no option to point to the spot. Rooney picked himself before calmly slotting home, sending the goalkeeper the wrong way with his second of the night to make it 3-3.

Despite being favorites ahead of the game, the Selecao found themselves two goals behind, thanks to an excellent brace from Mexican forward Oribe Peralta, with Hulk netting Brazil's consolation in stoppage time.
"I am very sad," the 50-year-old told Globoesporte. "We had done an excellent job till we reached the final.
"We were confident in achieving gold, but we could not replicate our other performances. Despite creating good chances, we never scored the equalizing goal. We can only recognize the superiority of our opponent and congratulate them for the prize we would have liked to see as ours."
Stars Neymar and Thiago Silva echoed their coach's sentiments, but also pledged their continued faith in the team, as they build towards the future.
"If Mexico won, they were better," Neymar told ESPN Brazil. "Football is made up of wins and losses, no matter how much we try to honor this shirt. We are still young, are not shaken, and want to lift our heads towards our next objectives. We already have another game on Wednesday with which to move on with.
"One has to hold his head up during this difficult time," affirmed Silva. "The members of this young team have their whole lives ahead of them. We're hopeful next year's Confederations Cup could end in our favor."
