NeGoals from Bruno Rodrigo and Neymar himself were enough to seal the trophy for the Brazilians, and the forward, who also missed a penalty in the match, expressed his delight at winning the cup.
“I'm extremely happy. A lot of people downplayed this competition, but we took it very seriously,” Neymar told AP. “It's another title for us, it was a trophy we had never won.”
Goalkeeper Rafael also felt his side were good value for their victory over the Chilean outfit.
“We deserved it, we played well the entire match,” added Rafael. "We fought hard to get here, following the Copa Libertadores title that we won last year.”
The Santos victory means Brazilian teams have now won more Sudamericana titles than any other South American nation.
