Some players such as Gareth Bale, Jack Wilshere and Santi Cazorla are easy decisions but others were much tougher, particularly deliberating over whether to pick Per Mertesacker or Laurent Koscielny.
Famous five: The five Gunners to feature in Keown' select XI are Per Mertesacker (above left), Thomas Vermaelen (above right), Jack Wilshere (below left), Sanit Carzola (below centre) and Theo Walcott (below)
LONDON
4-3-3: Friedel (Spurs); Walker (Spurs), Mertesacker (Arsenal), Vertonghen (Spurs), Vermaelen (Arsenal); Sandro (Spurs), Wilshere (Arsenal), Cazorla (Arsenal); Walcott (Arsenal), Adebayor (Spurs), Bale (Spurs)
Alongside Mertesacker, I’ve chosen Jan Vertonghen, who has impressed me but is a better centre back than left back. For Belgium, he sometimes plays there with Thomas Vermaelen outside him at full-back so that can work for this team.
Theo Walcott gets the nod ahead of Aaron Lennon because of his goalscoring threat, Kyle Walker edges out Bacary Sagna and Emmanuel Adebayor is too good to leave out up front.
Spurs' super six (from left): Keeper Brad Friedel, Kyle Walker, Jan Vertonghen, (below from left) Sandro, Emmanuel Adebayor and Gareth Bale complete Keown's composite XI
